I’m not the biggest fan of hats. I mostly prefer flower crowns. Hats blow away in the wind, they fall off, and more often than not, I’m indoors for the majority of the day, and hats seem useless (especially when you have to take them off to go inside). However, I’ll admit to my faults. Hats do add a lot to an outfit. For me at least, they make the outfit look better, but they also make it look more effortless. It’s that sort of “model off duty” style of dress that I’ve sort of turned to in the past few months. Plus, hats are easy to throw on as you’re walking out the door, and easy to style if you plan an outfit in advance. So I bought a few. Why not? OK, I bought 3, and for a while that was enough for me. I had a straw floppy hat for the summer, a wide brim fedora, and a bowler hat. They’re all very different types of hats, which is both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because I have a variety of types of hats to choose from, but bad, because I’m limited to one color or detail within each type of hat.
I actually bought all of these hats a while ago, if a little under a year can be considered a fairly long amount of time. It is for me. I can’t quite remember when I bought these, or if I bought them all at the same time, but I can pick a favorite. Currently, it’s the wide brim fedora if you couldn’t already guess. I’m dying to get another one that a bit more floppy around the brim, and in another color. Maybe I’ll get burgundy or grey this time. The fedora reminds me a bit of the wild west. I’m not sure if it’s the chains, or the brim, or the overall appearance of the hat, but I can’t help but think it would go great with a suede jacket (with fringe perhaps). This picture sums up my entire infatuation with the modern cowgirl.
I would try to convince you that your wardrobe needs a wide brim fedora, but sometimes you love something so much that you cannot put it into words. This is one of those times. I tried, and I failed. Instead, I feel that my love is better expressed through outfits and pictures. Enjoy…

Styling Hats – Modern Cowgirl
What I Wore: Chambray Button Up Shirt – similar here // Faux Suede Button Up Skirt – Forever 21 – similar here// Chained Wool Fedora – Forever 21
One of the reasons I bought overalls and styled them so many times is because pants can get boring quite quickly. Skirts and dresses require more effort and commitment in the morning, but for me, they seem to make a more interesting outfit than plain ol’ pants. Now I’m a sucker for a good fitting pair of high waisted jeans, but I do don a skirt or dress every now and then to mix things up. Maybe that explains why almost none of my outfits on this blog feature pants.
As I said a bit earlier, this fedora reminds me of the wild west, and inspires me to embrace my inner cowgirl. Or a modern cowgirl; I still can’t get behind cowgirl boots or a cow patterned vest. One of the things I took note of when I was searching through Tumblr and Pinterest for pictures of a modern cowgirl was suede and button-down shirts. This was pretty easy to emulate, and I guess I took it quite literally. Looking back, if I owned a suede jacket with fringe I would have definitely thrown that on, even with the suede skirt. I only wish I had discovered some way to tie the black from that hat and shoes into the skirt and shirt. I wanted to wear a black moto jacket, but those pictures didn’t turn out. I may add them on later though, so stay tuned.
What’s your biggest inspiration? What do you think of the modern cowgirl? Let me know in the comments.
